JAMMU: The first open J and K State Sport Climbing Championship for visually-challenged and specially-abled children, organised by Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK) in collaboration with Takshila Educational Trust, shall take place at Sprawling Buds School, Bantalab here on December 7.
About 100 climbers mainly from Jammu and some other nearby districts are expected to participate in the competition which shall be conducted in Lead climbing only on top rope. The competitions shall be held in only two categories of open men and women.
Whereas an international judge in sport climbing and Joint Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K Shawetica Khajuria shall be the President of Jury, Sonam Sidharth, a senior climber and an executive member of the Association, shall be the Organising Secretary of the competition.
Other technical and logistic support shall be provided by Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) North Zone Committee, New Delhi. The championship has been fully sponsored by Takshila Educational Trust which governs Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, Jammu under its social responsibility programme. “The Trust is committed to the promotion of adventure and other educational activities among the specially-abled children and funds for the conduct of any activity for the benefit of these children shall not be a constraint,” Rahul Sharma, Chairman of the Trust said.
