Peshawar: At least two soldiers and four militants were killed on Monday in an exchange of fire in Pakistan’s restive northwestern tribal belt, where military has launched a major offensive against the Taliban.
Clashes erupted between militants and security forces during a clearance operation in Gharlamai area of North Waziristan agency.
“Four terrorists were killed during clearance operation in Gharlamai area of North Waziristan. Two soldiers were also killed in the exchange of fire,” a military statement said.
Pakistan military launched Khyber-I operation last month against Lashkar-i-Islam (LI) hideouts.
The latest operation was launched amidst Zarb-i-Azb, a full-fledged military operation being conducted by the army against Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militants in the North Waziristan.
The security forces said it had killed more than 1,100 militants and lost more than 100 soldiers since the start of the operation on June 15.
