SRINAGAR: A clash broke out between a group of people and security forces over a youth’s arrest at Maisuma at the heart of the city here today, police said.
According to a police official, a group of around 25-30 people pelted stones at Maisuma police station protesting the arrest of Ashiq Kala, a resident of the area and also accused of pelting stones at security forces.
Police resorted to mild lathicharge and fired a few tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters, said the official, adding that no one was injured in the incident.
The protest was also being called to protest the arrest of a local boy.
All the shops and other business establishments were closed and traffic stopped passing through the locality.
