JAMMU: The Civil Society of Jammu convened a meeting on Wednesday, bringing together concerned citizens from diverse walks of life to pay tribute to the supreme sacrifice of Martyr Raj Kumar Thapa.
The gathering unanimously appealed to the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir to appoint his daughter, Mareesa Thapa, to a suitable gazetted post in the government.
The meeting lauded the commendable step taken by the Deputy Commissioner of Rajouri, who has recommended Mareesa Thapa-an accomplished graduate of Jammu University-for a government appointment.
Speakers at the event emphasized that her educational credentials, coupled with the extraordinary sacrifice made by her father in service to the nation, warrant compassionate consideration for a gazetted post such as Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar, Assistant Registrar (Cooperative), or Employment Officer.
Participants recalled several instances in the past where the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has recognized the sacrifice of martyrs by appointing their next of kin to gazetted posts. They urged the government to uphold this noble precedent in the case of Thapa.
Retired officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service also participated in the gathering, paying heartfelt tributes to the late Raj Kumar Thapa.
They added their voices to the collective appeal, urging the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister to deliver justice to the bereaved family and honor the sentiments of the people by appointing Thapa accordingly.
Prominent personalities who attended and addressed the event included Ramesh Kumar, Manmohan Singh, Shokat Qazmi, Yadh Pal, Senior KAS Officer (Retd.) Basin, Latief Qureshi, Qazmi, and Ch. Rashid Azam Inqlabi.
The Civil Society of Jammu strongly believes that such an appointment would not only be a gesture of gratitude toward the martyr’s family but also serve as a source of inspiration for the youth and a reaffirmation of the state’s commitment to those who lay down their lives for the nation.
