Chotuskone actor Paayel Sarkar awaits her next flick

Kolkata, Nov 3 (PTI) Chotuskone sensation Paayel Sarkar, also turning up in a string of arthouse films by new age directors including Ashare Gappo, says she will always go for a red and black outfit over anything else.

Paayel, who is admittedly most comfortable in jeans and T-shirt, gives all credit to her classy look in the film on the journey of four directors to the Chotuskone creative team and Srijit Mukherjee, who had recreated the Meena Kumari retro face in the film.

“My fashion statement will be to carry yourself with confidence and elan which will evolve as your own style. But on occasions we must be rooted and traditional. I love donning sarees at times as a Bengalee woman,” Paayel, having talks with a Bollywood director for an upcoming Hindi project, told PTI.

The actor, who loves to flaunt jewellery ? terracotta ethnic ones or heavy gold ornaments ? depending on occasions, pitched for outfits stitched by weavers from the disadvantaged sections of society.

Referring to the women of self help groups, who sell their products through NGOs, Paayel said, “Every woman should have economic independence by not allowing to be exploited,” Paayel said on the sidelines of the launch of Upananda, the fashion store showcasing the linens stitched by tribal Toto women.

The actor, also having made her mark in mainstream Bengali films, recalled how she had no idea how Chotuskone was shaping up as the director kept everything under wraps and only narrated the scenes.

“I knew it was a film about directors but that?s all.

I mostly went by Srijitda?s words. Now after watching the entire flick I find it amazing. And my role, how it was fitted in,” she said.

“We have sourced the materials and products from Totopara in the heart of the city. And she is our ambassador as an upcoming star,” one of the four women owners of the ethnic boutique aimed at sustaining poor,women-weavers said.
