JAMMU: Jammu Police on Monday recovered a highly decomposed body of a young girl from a septic tank in Muthi and arrested a 50-year-old man and his wife, suspected to be involved in her murder.
The body is believed to be that of a 23 year girl reported missing 52 days ago.
According to police, the body was cut into pieces and dumped in the septic tank to avoid detection.
During the course of investigations on a missing complaint lodged by mother of the Chenani based girl, Shivani, the police zeroed in on one, Sunil Kumar, 50 who was a co-tenant in a rented building where she lived. Father of three children, he is reported to have developed illicit relations with the girl and was regularly in contact with her.
Working on the inputs provided by mother of the girl, the police had converted the missing FIR into kidnapping and summoned some suspects, who were in contact with the missing girl.
Further the Call Details Record (CDR) of Shivani’s cell phone puzzled the police investigators, as over 30 suspects surfaced. Police prepared the list of all the suspects, who were in close touch with Shivani. After around 50 days of hectic investigations and questioning, police ascertained that Sunil Kumar was in contact with her since 2013, when she stayed in a rented house in Chinore.
Sunil, son of Gainyo Kumar, resident of Madhopur, Punjab, presently running furniture business at Chinore, was in regular contact with Shivani for the past two years. He, in fact, didn’t like Shivani’s links with other men, which is why he used to fight with her quite often for her intimacy with other men, police said quoting Sunil as having confessed. Both Sunil and his wife Rajni have been arrested as the mobile location of his wife also confirms her presence at the scene of crime.
On 12th March, 2015, Sunil called Shivani to his rented house in Muthi, where he murdered her. Later, he cut her body into pieces and dumped into the septic tank. He said she had disapproved of his advances that night and in a fit of anger, he killed her.
Today, police took him to Muthi and recovered Shivani’s body. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed that he had first strangulated Shivani and later cut her body into pieces.
“The credentials of Sunil’s wife, hailing from Basohli area of district Kathua, are also suspicious as she was also booked in Bakshi Nagar sex scandal case in 2010,” police said. She was arrested under FIR 175/2011 along with two other girls and three clients.
Police is verifying the credentials of Sunil’s other close friends and family members. “We are expecting more disclosures”, they added.
Police said, “Shivani had come to Jammu in 2009 and joined a course of Female Multipurpose Health Worker at ASCOMS hospital. However, in six years, she could not qualify the course.
Initially Shivani stayed at Janipur, then shifted to Bari Brahmana and then to Chinore. But lately she shifted to Sanjay Nagar.
Sunil’s elder son was married to a Chinore based girl last month.
