‘Chitta’ Ravan row

White colour has become a point of debate poll campaigning in Punjab for its nefarious connection to the narcotics. The state Congress has declared a virtual  war against the Akali Government for its “failure” to transfer the Ludhiana Police Commissioner in the ‘Chitta Ravan’ case, asking the party workers in all the 117 Assembly segments to burn effigies as a mark of protest. This is just the beginning and party would be riding on the co-related coincidence. Party has made the point strong that they will destroy the Chitta and its Ravan in its entirety in Punjab. The white Ravan effigies were made in protest against large scale open sale of heroin (Chitta) in Punjab and burning of it on Dussehra was  to Akali Government’s sluggish approach to the social evil. The clash between Congress and Akalis left at least 35 people injured. Alleging police bias and claiming that no case was lodged against the Akali Dal activists, Congress workers have been staging an indefinite protest outside Badal’s residence in Chandigarh since yesterday. Akalis have been reacting and had been “touchy” about the ‘Chitta Ravan’ issue as a matter fact it reflects guilt consciousness  of these leaders of masses. By resorting to violence against the burning of the ‘Chitta Ravan’, the Akalis have actually admitted to their guilt of being synonymous with the synthetic drug. The menace of ‘Chitta Ravan’ was there not only in Ludhiana but all over Punjab, with the people using it to express their anger against the Badals. With campaigning picking up the ‘Chitta’ is going to snowball  into major political issue as the social menace has not left even a single house untouched in border areas with victims being all youngsters.
