JAMMU: Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, on Wednesday reviewed the status of post flood relief and rehabilitation work in Jammu Division at a high level meeting here.
Principal Secretary Planning and Development B.R. Sharma, Director General of Police, K. Rajendra, Principal Secretary Finance, B.B Vyas, Principal Secretary PDD, A.K Mehta, and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
While receiving brief on the latest status from Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and via video conferencing from Deputy Commissioners of all districts of Jammu Division, Chief Secretary directed for taking immediate steps to provide suitable shelter facilities to those who have been living in tents, in view of the ensuing winter season.
Khandey also directed for extending the ex-gratia announced by the government in favour of all those families whose next of kin lost their lives due to September floods. He said the ex-gratia package of Rs 5 Lakh includes Rs 1.5 Lakh from SDRF, Rs 2 Lakh from Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and Rs. 1.5 Lakh from Chief Minister’s Flood Relief Fund. He said any family not provided with the ex-gratia amount, as of now, must be provided the relief immediately, directly into their bank account.
Chief Secretary also received brief with regard to the distribution of relief in favour of those whose houses and other structures had been damaged fully/partially in the flood fury. He also received status report on the restoration works carried out by various departments including I&FC, PHE, PWD, PDD, Health etc in the flood affected districts of Jammu Division.
The meeting was informed that funds to the tune of Rs 950 Crore have already been released to provide succour to the flood affected people in the state.
