Chenab Valley under snow, postponement of SSC exam demanded

BHADARWAH: Life went out of gear as whole Chenab Valley again experienced fresh snowfall on Monday.
According to reports, Bhadarwah, Banihal, Kishtwar, Gandoh and other higher reaches received heavy snowfall, while Doda town, Ramban and Thathri received season’s first snowfall.
Higher reaches of Chenab Valley are experiencing heavy snowfall, due to which NH1A, NH1B and all the major link roads of districts Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban were closed for traffic movement. People are also facing problem due to non availability of potable water and electricity in most of the areas as power supply was snapped early in the morning at Bhaderwah, Gandoh and Banihal.
Dy.SP Traffic NH1B Aftab Ahmed said that in view of accumulation of 2ft snow and continuous heavy snowfall at Patnitop, authorities had stopped movement of all vehicles on the highway on temporary basis.
“We have also closed all the major link roads of District Doda and Kishtwar as till 10:00 AM, Bhadarwah, Kishtwar, Gandoh, Doda and Goha have recorded 2ft,1.2ft, 1.5ft, 4 inches, 1.5ft of snow respectively. Since early morning we have not allowed any vehicle to move from their respective places,” officer added saying that commuters should consult our control rooms before planning their journey.
Meanwhile scores of candidates from Chenab Valley who have to appear in Service Selection Commission (SSC) examinations tomorrow at Jammu got stuck up at their respective places and are demanding that the written test should be postponed.
A female candidate Ismat Ara of Chinar Mohalla Bhadarwah said that, it is snowing very heavily since last night and traffic has been suspended, under these circumstances it is impossible for us to reach Jammu by tomorrow. So our request to the authorities is that they should postpone the paper scheduled for tomorrow considering our future.

Vaishno Devi Shrine receives heavy snowfall
KATRA: Heavy snowfall continued at world famous Shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan and Bhairon Ghati on Monday.
As per information, about one foot of snow was recorded at Vaishno Devi, two feet at Bhairon Ghati whereas 4-5 feet at Trikuta Mountains of Mata Vaishno Devi and snowfall is still going on. Despite bad weather and continues snowfall, all tracks of Mata Vaishno Devi remain open for devotees. Meanwhile Shrine Board has opened the door of Natural Cave of Mata Vaishno Devi for devotees.
