SRINAGAR: A daylong workshop for media persons was organised by the office of Chief Electoral Officer here on Thursday.
The participants comprising members of the media fraternity from both Print and Electronic streams were briefed about issues pertaining to elections by the Chief Electoral Officer, Umang Narula, Director Information and Deputy Chief Electoral Officer.
Issues like Code of Conduct for news, advertisement by political parties, paid news, media certification etc came up for discussion during the workshop.
Narula on the occasion highlighted the role of media in the conduct of free and fair elections. He said the impact of media due to its wide reach is significant and it is an important source of information for voters. As such it is essential to ensure that media is used in the best interest of democracy and the voter, he maintained.
