JAMMU: Chief Electoral Officer J&K, Shantmanu on Thursday called on Governor N.N Vohra and briefed him about the to-date status of preparations for the conduct of Panchayat elections and the poll for filling the Anantnag and Srinagar Parliamentary seats.
The two parliamentary seats have fallen vacant after the election of Mehbooba Mufti to Legislative Assembly and resignation of Tariq Hameed Karra on the issue of tackling Kashmir unrest.
Karra has resigned from the PDP and indicated formation of a new political party. He has claimed offer of the chief ministership by the BJP after former Chief Minister fell ill and also after his death. This has been vehemently denied by the BJP with Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh rejecting the claim of the former MP.
Meanwhile, Director General of PolIce (DGP) K. Rajendra Kumar met the Governor and informed him about the internal security situation in Kashmir Division and elsewhere in the State. The DGP was on an extensive tour of the Valley after the Pampore terror attack.
