CBI registers case of swindling MNREGA wages

New Delhi: CBI has registered a case against a postmaster for allegedly swindling funds worth over Rs 1.5 crore meant for wage distribution of poor labourers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

The agency has filed a FIR against the Branch Postmaster, Post Office Sativada (Andhra Pradesh) and three other postal officials of Srikakulam Division, Srikakulam.

A CBI spokesperson said here that it is alleged that these officials entered in criminal conspiracy during the period October 26, 2013 to September 09, 2015 and had misappropriated an amount of Rs 1.53 crore (approx) in disbursement of wages to the beneficiaries under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS).

She said searches have been conducted at the residential premises of accused persons at Sativada, Gara, Srikakulam and Muralinagar, Visakhapatnam which led to recovery of incriminating documents.
