JAMMU: The Crime Branch (EOW) Jammu on Saturday filed charge-sheet against an ex-Cop and his wife for real estate fraud worth Rs 1.80 Crore with a reputed doctor’s wife in Jammu.
The accused, against whom charge sheet was filed in the court of law, have been identified as Mohd. Afzal Beg, son of Abdul Rashid Beg, resident of Gool, district Ramban at present Bahu Fort Jammu and his wife Fehmida Kouser.
Accused Mohd Afzal Beg, who happened to be a Constable of J&K Armed Police, illegally indulged in property dealing while in government service and subsequently resigned from IRP 19th Battalion Kathua in 2022.
In 2023, a written complaint was received from wife of one reputed Doctor of Jammu Dr Khalid alleging therein that Mohd Afzal posed as sole owner of someone else’s land and sold her two kanals of land in Sidhra, Jammu for a total consideration of Rs 2.25 Crore out of which Rs.1.80 Crore had been paid in advance and subsequently it came to fore that the land belonged to someone else. Afzal didn’t return the money.
After preliminary verification into the allegations, FIR was registered and in-depth investigation was conducted by the highly professional Investigating Officer (IO) and case of cheating, fraud and forgery was proved against Mohd Afzal Beg and his wife.
Mohd Afzal Beigh, resident of Gool, at present Bahu Fort, Jammu was arrested by Crime Branch Jammu from Srinagar on August 17, 2023 under FIR 72/2023.
Beigh while serving in J&K Police as constable was operating as property dealer and after committing frauds he constructed a four story building/hotel at Gool (Ramban) in the name of his father.
The Crime Branch was investigating many complaints against the accused couple as they had cheated many innocent persons by showing them plots owned by others. They even cheated a serving Senior Superintendent of Police, who has been cheated to the tune of lakhs of rupees.

A charge sheet comprising of 470 pages has been produced in the court of City Judge Jammu.
