NEW DELHI: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday said a substantial amount of Rs 3,694 crore has been earmarked for ongoing railway projects in Jammu and Kashmir this fiscal year.
Addressing media persons, the Minister said this funding is aimed at accelerating the development of railway infrastructure in the region.
He said the dream project– Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) is nearing completion. The project is in its final stages and will be inaugurated soon, he said, adding that the Pulwama-Sangam section in specific is almost finished, with only a 17 km section (Tunnel T1) between Katra and Reasi still under construction.
“Several new projects are underway, including the Baramulla-Uri railway line and two other lines. Additionally, work is going on to develop four terminals from Budgam to Baramulla and establish four new stations: Budgam, Jammu Tawi, Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and Udhampur station.” he said.
“The Chenab Bridge and the railway line up to the Sangaldan section are already operational. The Sangaldan to Reasi section has been completed, and the Commission of Railway Safety certificate has been received for these sections,” the Minister said.
Vaishnaw stated that the completion of USBRL marks a significant milestone.
“This comprehensive investment and development in railway infrastructure underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and transportation in Jammu and Kashmir, which is expected to facilitate economic growth and improve connectivity for residents and visitors alike,” he said.
