JAMMU: Department of Buddhist Studies, University of Jammu celebrated Buddha Purnima with great fan fare.
The function started with the paying obeisance to Lord Buddha followed by prayer (Buddha Vandana) by the students and research scholars of the department.
Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Pankaj Kumar Srivastava was the Chief Guest whereas Prof. Kedar Nath Sharma from Department of Sanskrit was the Guest of Honour.
Dr. Bharat Bhusahn Sharma, Principal, Govt. Degree College, Thanamandi was the Special invitee in the function which was presided over by Prof. B. Labh, Head, Dept. of Buddhist Studies.
Prof. Srivastava talked about the basic teachings of the Buddha and the ways and means of their application in day to day life.
He said, “If we follow the teachings of such spiritual personalities we can really make our society a better place of living.”
Prof. Kedar Nath Sharma shared his personal and direct experience of living and rich Thai Buddhist tradition and culture during his stay in Bangkok.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Suresh Kumar.
