JAMMU: Bhartiya Shiksha Samiti (BSS), Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday launched its Solar Lights distribution campaign from Bharatiya Vidya Mandir (BVM) High School, Hiranagar in Kathua district. A total of 150 lights were distributed among needy students and teachers. Speaking on the occasion, Ved Bhushan informed that a total of 8,077 solar lights worth Rs 1.8 cr were earmarked to distribute among students hailing from BPL families of J&K and Ladakh UTs. “We have seen that students from poor families were without light during power cuts and finding it difficult to continue their studies during night-time.
With help of a philanthropist namely Braham Ratan Aggrawal, we have received these solar lights to facilitate need of students and teachers,” he added.
Pradip, while sharing his thoughts, expressed that during COVID-19 time many philanthropists came forward to help suffering masses and even common masses exhibited great spirits in helping each other.
“Free distribution of solar lights among the students from BPL families is one such step in the direction. The students residing in remote areas and those belonging to BPL families need proper lighting facilities during night to continue their studies and we are trying our best to mitigate their sufferings. We have 36 schools across J&K and Ladakh UTs, and solar lights will be distributed at these places,” he added.
