JAMMU: A record 1100 athletes shall be competing for the top honours in the 23rd Border Security Force (BSF) Inter-Frontier Sports Meet, organised by the Jammu Frontier, at BSF Sports Stadium, Paloura, here on Monday.
Top athletes of the BSF, drawn from all 11 Frontiers, shall take part in five events of Weightlifting, Judo, Gymnastics, Boxing and Wrestling.
“All the participating contingents have reported at the venue and most of the athletes had practice sessions in their respective events. The preliminary round of the competition shall start on Monday morning, however, the tournament is scheduled to be inaugurated by the Inspector General of Jammu Frontier, Rakesh Sharma in the afternoon,” informed sources told.
Earlier, ahead of the competition, the technical officials and those team managers as also coaches had meetings with the organizers at the venue.
“The technical officials and representatives of the teams in different disciplines had technical sessions this afternoon so as to clear the doubts, if any, this afternoon. So, the stage is set for the sports extravaganza beginning tomorrow,” said the source.
The host Jammu Frontier is defending champion in Judo and holds third and fourth rank in Weightlifting and Gymnastics respectively.
