Braveheart saves two from Tawi flash floods

JAMMU: A braveheart saved two persons while two women feared to have drowned when flash floods hit Tawi resulting in sudden rise of waters near Fortune Hotel on Saturday. Imtiaz, a resident of Nikki Tawi area, who was passing by jumped into the river from the bridge and tried to save a 30-year-old man and an 8-year-old boy.
According to police, the women, natives of Maharashtra, were washing clothes when the tragedy struck. They have been identified as Anita, wife of Sunil alias Yalap, 25 and Sunita, 20.
The rescued have been identified as Malesh alias Ramu, 8, son of Prabhu and Sunil alias Yalap, son of Laxman 30. “We took the help of the air force to trace the women but so far we have had no success,” police said.
Police and a team of State Disaster Rescue Force (SDRF) was immediately rushed to the spot, when locals along the banks raised an alarm,” they added.
In another incident near Bhau Ki Tanki, Panjtirthi two tractors got struck in an island in Tawi. The 2nd Bn SDRF team from Jammu along with a Police team was put into action and rescued four of them. People appreciated the efforts of SDRF and J&K Police.
