Leh : For the first time an awareness programme on Adolescence Education is being organized in Leh. Organized by J&K State Board of School Education (BOSE) in collaboration with NCERT New Delhi at Leh Conference hall the two days awareness programme was chaired by Executive Councilor for Higher Education, Mohd. Shafi Lassu today.
Addressing the programme, Executive Councilor for Higher Education Mohd Shafi Lassu said that adolescent period is the most sensitive stage in human life adding that it is the same period in which adolescents are venerable to drugs, bad company, bad habits etc. and it is the responsibility of parents and teachers to handle their adolescent children properly so that they could become a responsible citizens. Appreciating the organizes for conducting this important awareness programme in Leh for the first time, Shafi hoped that such programmes will continue covering entire area of Ladakh in days to come and extended LAHDC’s full support in conducting such programmes.
Expressing concern over HIV and drugs abuse cases in Leh, EC Shafi Lassu said that LAHDC, Leh under its scheme is screening whole population of Leh district so that deadly disease like AIDS could be controlled timely and requested NGOs of Leh especially Women Alliance Leh to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS in Ladkah.
Earlier, Prof. (Dr.) Saroj Yadav, Coordinator National Population Education NCERT New Delhi Adolescence Education in India said that the two days awareness programme is designed to sensitize all the stakeholders and train teachers who will further educate adolescent children in Ladakh. Talking in detail about the physical, emotional and behavioural changes during adolescent period, she said that it is the right of every individual to know about their self and it is the duty of we mature people to help our children in taking responsible decisions. She further stressed upon infusing skills like communication, negotiation and empathy in adolescent children so that they could become responsible citizens of over nation.
Ms. Kaneez Fatima, Director Academic BOSE in her welcome address stressed for keeping young generation of Ladakh away from bad affects of societal changes and tourism and strategies issues of adolescents according to our region for effective implementation.
Later, Mr. M.A Wani and Dr. Muzafar Khan (Resource Persons) gave a power point presentation on understanding adolescence, challenging stereotypes and discrimination, reporting abuse and violation and presentation on identification of regional adolescent related issues, presentation of substance misuse.
The programme was attended by Councilor Tsering Angmo, Councilor Sakti Gyal Wangyal, Principal DIET, Leh Konchok Angmo, CEO, Leh, CDPO, Leh, ZEO, Leh , different NGOs of Leh including women alliance and nun association and good number of principals and lecturers of govt and private schools.
