JAMMU: The district administration Jammu has constituted seventeen veterinary teams to provide medicare facilities to the livestock of border residents shifted to safer places in wake of border firing.
Pertinently, over 28,000 persons from firing affected border areas of Arnia, Trewa, Nikowal, Zora Farm, Suchetgarh, Adbullian, Chinore area, Pragwal, Garghal, Hamirpur Kona, of Jammu District have been shifted to temporary shelter camps setup by the district administration at safer places.
Firing has also forced the affected villagers to move about 7,000 livestock to safer places.
Atleast 29 animals have died and more than 85 injured in the recent border firing in Jammu district.
Around 13 teams of Animal Husbandry and four teams of Sheep Husbandry Department each comprising one VAS, two Paravets and two Attendants have been constituted to provide immediate Veterinary Health Care and treatment to the injured animals.
Of these six teams are working in RS Pura/Bishnah Block, four in Marh Block, four in Akhnoor/Khour Block, while two Mobile clinical Units Headquartered at Jammu are also assisting in this work. So far, 153 quintals of wheat bhusa has been provided to the farmers as per the requirement. Teams of animal and sheep husbandry departments are providing free veterinary services from door to door in affected areas / shelter camps.
To provide immediate advance Veterinary aid to the seriously injured cattle / sheep and goat, six animals from Chinore Farm and three from Hamirpurkona have been shifted to SKUAST RS Pura Jammu.
The arrangements are being monitored by Chief Animal Husbandry officer, Jammu under the close vigil and guidance of Deputy Commissioner Jammu, A.K Sahu.
Meanwhile, the Sheep husbandry Department, Jammu is also providing veterinary health care through four dedicated teams to provide Veterinary aid to the Sheep and Goat Flocks of migratory Gujjars and Bakarwals in this hour of crisis.
All these measures are coordinated with the help of Block Veterinary Officers in each affected block in coordination with the concerned SDMs.
