JAMMU: Border Area Kisan Committee (BAKC) asked government to construct multi-story structures for the temporary stay in nearby areas within 10 to 15 kilometers distance for the border formers who suffered a lot due to cross border firing.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Committee Coordinator, H.C Jalmeria said that in the background of the cross border firing, the farmers of border areas of J and K State bear the brunt. “They suffer loss of human and cattle lives besides of crops and their entire economy is based on agriculture and animal husbandry,” he said adding that in the situation of disturbance on border they neither can sow nor can reap the crops.
Studies of their children also suffer and they cannot attend to their cattle which is the main source of their income and good health, he added.
During the ongoing exchange of firing on the Indo-Pak border, he said, residents of these areas had to dislocate for safety of their lives, they could not carry their cattle along. Such situation repeats many times making the lives of these people uncertain. They have to live in the areas close to border because they have no other alternative.
He demanded from government to provide compensation of Rs. 80,000 for each cow and one lakh for each buffalo, Rs. 10 lakh in death, Rs 1 lakh and treatment cost in injury, Rs. 6000 per quintal for Basmati and Rs.4000 per quintal for other kinds of paddy,. Seeds, fertilizers and pesticides be provided to the farmers immediately at maximum subsidy for sowing next Rabi crop, he said adding that relaxation to students in syllabus/exams be given and make Cooperative Banks functional.
