Bollywood music has diversity: Shalmali Kholgade

Mumbai: Singer Shalmali Kholgade believes there is diversity in Bollywood music and something for everyone.

“One striking thing about Bollywood music is it’s diversity, you don’t get to listen to just one genre of music.

It’s depended on film whether it’s the slow ballet, rock song or electronic track there is something for everyone in Bollywood film,” Shalmali told PTI.

She made her singing debut with Arjun Kapoor-Parineeti Chopra starrer “Pareshaan”.

She has sung songs Iike “Pareshaan”, “Lat Lag Gayi”, “Balam Pichkari”, “Baby Ko Bass Pasand Hai”, “Besharmi Ki Height” and others.

“I did not know what playback singing was when I sang ‘Pareshaan’. I was told this is melody and you have to sing it, I sang naturally the way it came to me. And Amit Trivedi (music director) liked it. ‘Pareshaan’, this song is always going to be memorable for me.”

In a short span of her career Shalmali has donr playback singinf for actresses like Anushka Sharma, Parineeti Chopra, Deepika Padukone and others.

“My criteria is never about who I sing for as I don’t have preference. I want to sing a good song be it for a newcomer or Deepika Padukone I will sing the song with same amount of love and heart,” Shalmali sys.

Now, the 26-year-old singer will be seen as a judge on Star Plus’ new singing reality show “Dil Hai Hindustani” along with filmmaker Karan Johar, composer-singer Shekhar Ravjiani and rapper Badshah.

“Judging someone is not easy task. We will be looking for someone who has their own good voice and style.
