JAMMU: The court of 2nd Additional Munsiff has sent notorious blackmailer Amit Kapoor on seven days police remand to investigate extortion case registered against him at Bus Stand Police Station and various complaints lodged at various police stations against him.
On June 5, Jammu police arrested Amit Kapoor from Jammu Bus Stand area while demanding and accepting money from a government employee.
Today, Police submitted in Court that the accused Amit Kapoor is a habitual notorious blackmailer and there are numerous complaints against him related to extortion and blackmailing.
“To grant bail at this moment will hamper the police investigations,” the investigating officer apprised the court, adding his custody is required to investigate the extortion cases.
The complainant Avinash Kumar, an employee of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the Bus Stand police that Amit Kapoor had threatened him to expose some documents to media if he does not pay him Rs 10 lakh.
Self-styled activist and convenor of the so-called Parents Association, the fraudster Amit Kapoor was arrested under section 387 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) under FIR 31/2024. According to police records, in 2018, Amit Kapoor had also faked an incident of an attack on him at Greater Kaliash area, which later proved to be totally baseless and concocted. He was also booked for blackmailing the then Director Education Anuradha Gupta.
According to police, FIRs are registered against Amit Kapoor at Janipur Police Station, City Police Station and at Police Station Peer Mitha.
Police said, “Amit Kapoor’s modus operandi was to hold protests against schools, government officers and business houses in a bid to demand and extort money from them.” The complainants have also sought to book Amit Kapoor, who is running a fake Parents’ Association, under Public Safety Act )PSA) so that he can’t cheat and blackmail others.
