JAMMU: District President of BJP Yuva Morcha, Advocate Kanav Sharma, son of prominent lawyer and senior BJP leader Advocate Chander Mohan Sharma, was critically injured after being shot during a parking dispute near his residence in New Plot, Jammu. The incident, which occurred on Friday afternoon, has left the local residents in shock.
A senior police officer said, “the main accused Ravinder Singh fired two rounds at Advocate Kanav Sharma, injuring him seriously. The Bakshi Nagar Police has arrested the accused and recovered the weapon. FIR 01/2025 has been registered and investigation started,”
The scuffle reportedly began when Kanav requested employees of a nearby power station to remove their scooter, which was obstructing the parking space, outside his house. Witnesses stated that the employees, instead of complying, started arguing, which quickly escalated into a heated altercation.
In a shocking turn of events, one of the power station employees, identified as a meter reader, Ravinder Singh pulled out a pistol and shot at Kanav twice. According to locals, the accused appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the incident. Ravinder Singh managed to flee from the spot. However after the chase of over six hours, he was arrested by Bakshi Nagar police.
A woman neighbour acted swiftly to shift the injured Kanav to Sarwal Hospital. Later, he was shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Jammu, for advanced treatment. Doctors who operated on Kanav have stated that his condition is stable, though he remains under close observation.
J&K High Court Bar Association President Advocate Nirmal Kotwal also visited the hospital to enquire about Kanav’s health. He condemned the incident and called for stern action against the accused. “This kind of violence over a trivial matter is unacceptable. We urge the authorities to take strict measures,” Kotwal said.
BJP leader and former President of J&K High Court Bar Association, Abhinav Sharma, has also condemned the shocking attack on Kanav Sharma.
Expressing his outrage, Abhinav termed the attack as “an act of cowardice aimed at intimidating those who are actively working for the welfare of society.” He demanded swift action against the culprits and called upon the police to ensure the culprits face strict punishment as per the law.
“This is not just an attack on an individual but on the democratic values we stand for. Kanav Sharma has been at the forefront of the fight against drugs and has inspired many youth in Jammu to join the cause. Such incidents only strengthen our resolve to work for a better society,” he added.
The senior BJP leader urged the authorities to expedite the investigation, emphasizing the need for stricter measures to curb rising crime in Jammu City.
