JAMMU: Panic gripped Digiana area when few gunshots were heard near the residence of newly elected BJP MLA Sham Choudhary late Sunday night.
On hearing the shots, some of the residents came out to find out as to what had happened.
Meanwhile, police also arrived at the scene and inquired about the incident from the MLA who claimed that the fire was pointed at him which missed the target.
Three shots reported to be fired from a pistol by Ghar Singh alias Ghara, son of Ranjit Singh, next-door neighbour of MLA Sham Choudhary.
The eye witnesses told police that both the neighbours were having verbal altercation which turned violent with Ghara threatening the nephews of Sham Choudhary by pointing pistol at them.
When Sham Choudhary tried to pacify the situation between his nephews and the sons of neighbour Ranjit Singh, three shots were fired. Nobody was reported to be hurt in the incident.
Police has seized the weapon and picked up Ghara, his father Ranjit Singh and friend Ranjeet Choudhjary alias Rinku for questioning.
Ghara is a van driver while the pistol he was holding belongs to his father, police said, adding,” three used cartridges have been seized from the spot.
