BJP leader’s son arrested in Akhnoor sex scandal

JAMMU: Continuing investigations into the Akhnoor Sex Scandal, the Police on Tuesday arrested sixth accused, identified as son of a BJP leader from the Akhnoor area.
According to a report, Akhnoor Police, headed by Station House Officer (SHO) Akhnoor Inspector Pushpinder Singh raided a readymade garment shop and arrested one Akhil Gupta, son of Bharat Bhushan Gupta, (BJP leader ), resident of Ward No. 2 Akhnoor wanted in Akhnoor sex scandal case.
Giving details, the SHO said after the statement of the girl, police has already arrested five persons and while sixth person Akhil was at large, who was arrested today.
Those already in police custody include Pawan Kumar alias Pappa, son of Balak Ram, resident of W. No. 10 (readymade garment shopkeeper), Amit Mahajan, son of Chaman Lal Gupta, resident of W. No. 7 (Utensils shopkeeper), Hardeep Tangotra alias Sahil, son of Krishan Lal, resident of Gandharwan, Tehsil Akhnoor and Anil Magotra, son of Harminder Lal, resident of Manda (mommos seller)
These arrests were made soon after the sex-scandal was exposed by the STATE TIMES, creating ripples in the border town.
On December 2, Surinder Kumar, a resident of Akhnoor lodged a complaint with Police that his minor daughter went missing on November 12.
Police initiated a probe and it was established that one Gulshan Kumar, a resident of Pathankot in Punjab, had kidnapped the victim.
A police team constituted to trace the missing girl, recovered the victim from Kumar’s house in Pathankot and brought her back to Jammu.
During the course of investigation, the girl had disclosed that she was sexually exploited by several people of Akhnoor town particularly those having business in the area.
The victim’s statement was recorded before a Magistrate and several people were booked under rape charges.
