JAMMU: Claiming that BJP is adopting hypocrisy in dealing with the issue of West Pak Refugees (WPRs), Congress Senior Vice President and former Minister Sham Lal Sharma on Sunday said the party which had promised to provide citizenship rights to this section of refugees before elections is now befooling the community by merely providing them only identity cards.
He said this while addressing monthly meeting of Block Congress Committee of Akhnoor.
“BJP has always indulged in double speak to remain in power,” he
said adding that party has exploited the issue for the sake of vote bank politics.
He said that BJP owes an explanation as to why the promise of citizenship rights has trickled down to mere identity cards. “BJP is in power both at the Centre and in the State and it should explain to people what has happened to its promise of granting citizenship rights to WPRs,” Sharma said. He urged the Government to sort out the issue of citizenship rights to WPRs and cautioned the Government that it should not succumb to the pressure of separatists over the matter.
Sham also expressed his anguish over the harsh attitude of Government towards the daily wagers who are on strike for the last many days. “So much so they have not been paid their wages and their families and school going children are facing undue hardships due to financial crunch”, he pointed out demanding Government’s intervention in redressing their problems.
Sham also highlighted the problems being faced by the people whom the Adhar Cards have not been issued. Sham also expressed concern over the increasing unemployment in the State.
He said that during elections BJP had promised employment to the ‘Youth’ of the State but BJP Government has miserably failed to meet the aspirations of the younger generation as there have been no employment avenues generated in the State. He alleged that the BJP Government which is in alliance with PDP and are considering themselves so called sympathisers of masses of Jammu not paying their serious attention towards the development of Jammu region.
Sham said that the BJP has completely surrendered before the PDP and are lacking courage to put forth the genuine problems of people of Jammu.
