LEH: BJP in its election manifesto has given priority to the issues pertaining to the people dwelling in Leh, the cold desert situated at the extreme north of India. Various points highlighted in its manifesto for Leh included granting of Union Territory Status to Ladakh region, inclusion of Bhoti Language in the 8th Schedule of Constitution of India, early completion of Nimo-Padum-Darcha Road, opening of Central University in Leh with medical and engineering colleges, opening of Kailash – Mansarover Road via Demjok for pilgrimage and tourism, deemed university status for the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, special employment package for both the educated and un-educated youth, mobile connectivity in rural and border villages, more flights for Leh and subsidised airfare for locals on the lines of the North-Eastern States. Besides, special stress has been laid on Nubra Valley by assuring tunnel in Khardungla pass for better connectivity, Power Grid connectivity with Alchi Hydro Electric Project and Northern Grid System, opening of Sumoor- Yarma-Gompa Axis for enhancing foreign and domestic tourism, early completion and opening of Turtuk- Hanu Road via Tebe-Nallah for better access to Turtuk region and opening of Turtuk –Khapulu Road link for giving fillip to trade and commerce.
