JAMMU: A Superintending Engineer (SE) and Chief Khilafwarzi Officer (CKO) of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) received minor injuries on Saturday when a group of people attacked them during demarcation of plots in Birpur Housing Colony. Soon after the incident, work at the colony site was stopped. A team of JDA officials had gone to the colony site where plots over 585 Kanals have been allotted after draw of lots.
However, locals had been claiming that the land belonged to them. Last year, a group of locals had approached Court, which disposed off the case in favour of the JDA. This irked the locals and they kept attacking the JDA team whenever they started plot demarcation work at the site. This morning, when the JDA team, led by SE Roop Lal Angurana, CKO Naruinder Singh and other officers reached the spot, the locals attacked them. A police party escorting the team failed to control the situation, as a result of which two officials received injuries .
JDA VC Mubarak Singh has taken strong notice of the police failure in protecting the JDA officers and resuming the work. “I have written to the SSP Samba to provide adequate security so that work can be resumed and possession of plots handed over to the allottees,” Singh said. FIR has been registered against those who attacked the JDA team.
