Bhadarwah Campus conducts workshop on disaster management

BHADARWAH: To create a sense of responsibility among school children by imparting them with training on different aspects of natural and man-made disasters, a two-day workshop on ‘Disaster and Hazards-Risks and Risk Reduction’ was organised by Bhaderwah University Campus, which concluded here on Saturday.
The workshop in which 95 students drawn from different schools of Chenab Valley participated, was held at Lal Ded Auditorium and Institute of Mountain Environment of Bhadarwah University Campus simultaneously.
The programme in which professors and scholars from national and international institutes of Earth Sciences and Seicmic studies delivered lectures and held interactive sessions with the students on natural and man-made disasters and hazards was a joint venture of IERT (Institute of Energy, Research and Training), UCL, The Geological Society, EGI(Energy and Geoscience Institute) and British Geological Survey under Students Education Programme.
On first day of the programme, besides interactive lectures by Seismologist and Rector Bhadarwah Campus Prof G.M.Bhatt and Prof. Brindaban Thusoo of University College London, a PowerPoint presentation depicting different kind of hazards were also shown followed by practical training on risk reduction.
On the second day, students were asked to make paintings to express what they have learned during interactive sessions regarding disasters and hazards-risk and risk reduction.
Prominent experts who were a part of workshop include Rector Bhadarwah University Campus Prof G.M.Bhatt, Prof Brindaban Thusoo, Ex-Director Geological Survey of India, B.K. Raina, Prof Neeraj Sharma, Prof S.K. Pandita, Dr Muteen Hafeez, Dr Yudhvir Singh and Waqar Ahmed.
