JAMMU: Three Senior Advocates were assaulted at Janipur Court Complex on Tuesday by some members of Young Lawyers Association while the Bar Association has decided to suspend work for half day on Wednesday as General House meeting of Bar has been called.
In a bizarre episode, close to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court complex, a group of young lawyers on Tuesday morning attacked three of their Senior Advocates and tore off their clothes.
Eyewitnesses said that advocates BB Kotwal, Ravinder Sharma (ex public prosecutor) and J P Nanda had objected to the act of the group of the young lawyers as they set up working places in District Court Complex Bar Room No: 1.
The three senior advocates pleaded that the hall had been dedicated for recreational purpose and the lawyers could not use it for their routine work.
Thereupon, a bitter clash took place during which the young lawyers allegedly attacked and abused the three elder lawyers. Later the trio complained the matter to High Court Bar Association President Adv Abhinav Sharma.
The association has called for suspension of work in High Court and subordinate courts for the first half of the day on Wednesday besides a discussion over the incident in General House meeting.
The trio complained that that same group of lawyers had recently attacked a Nazir which led to a strike by the court employees’ association. They have complained today’s matter to SHO Janipur but the Bar Association has desired action on senior advocates’ complaint after a discussion in tomorrow’s Bar Association meeting over the incident.
