“Bank lending to the MSME sector has increased 108 per cent at Rs 22,000 crore in the last year from Rs 10,200 crore,” Mitra said at an Assocham seminar here today.
He said that number of MSME clusters had also increased from 48 to 92 in the last three years.
Mitra said that in the last three years after Trinamool Congress came to power, number of MSME units had increased to 35,000 giving direct employment to three lakh and indirect jobs to ten lakh.
The Minister said investments which were taking place on the ground in the state had increased to Rs 84,000 crore.
He said that the latest first quarter GDP data showed that West Bengal was way ahead of the national figure.
Referring to Hindustan Motors in Uttarpara, he said that Ajay Piramal, which had picked up considerable stake in a Shriram Group entity, would invest Rs 6,500 crore in the surplus land of the factory.
