KATRA : Natrang Director Balwant Thakur was felicitated by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, at Matrika Auditorium, Katra for his most outstanding creation, internationally acclaimed Dogri play ‘Ghumayee’.
The felicitation were done by Shahid Iqbal Chowdhary, District Development Commissioner, Udhampur and was joined by Dr. Varun Tripathi President, Board of Cultural Activities SMVD University. Speaking on the occasion Shahid Iqbal said that Balwant Thakur has contributed immensely for the preservation and propagation of the rich cultural heritage of the region. On the occasion, he referred to Balwant Thakur’s yet another mind-blowing presentation Bawa Jitto which he hosted twice at the historic Aghar Jitto Festival as Deputy Commissioner Reasi.
On the occasion Dr. Varun Tripathi informed that the presentation of internationally acclaimed Dogri play Ghumayee was organised as a part of Decadal Celebrations of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and the students out here had the life-time opportunity to witness one of the most celebrated play of the region and also this pan-India audience had the real exposure about the strong local cultural traditions and values.
Balwant Thakur who has made his life a mission to bring this part of the world into international lime-light through his cultural initiatives said that it’s high time that we start preserving our cultural identities as other important missions of life. We all keep expressing our concerns about nationalism but the best way to demonstrate nationalism is by the way of respecting, preserving, promoting and taking pride in our cultural belongings.
