Bajrang Dal protests installation of telecom tower at temple premises

JAMMU: Activists of Bajrang Dal today held demonstration in front of Shri Ranbireshwar Temple, Shalamar here alleging to the installation of telecom tower in the temple premises by Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust.
Activists led by Bajrang Dal Convener Rakesh Sharma assembled inside the temple and lodged a strong protest.
“We strongly oppose to build cellular tower in the premises of the Temple,” he said.
Having a cellular tower nearby, he said, can be harmful and hazardous to health because of the radiation from the tower.
“Telecommunication towers generate powerful high frequency radio waves and this has been linked to headache, memory loss, cancer, birth defects and heart condition,” he said adding that there could be nothing else but money that had made those planners decide caring care nothing for the lives of so many people being put at great risk.
“Cell towers are more dangerous than the mobile handsets because they generate greater-intensity radiation 24 hours,” he said.
He said Dharmarth Trust is making life of lakhs of devotees who are coming from State and other places to pay obeisance in the Temple, at risk.
Rakesh demanded an immediate halt to the project and said it be built elsewhere where it poses no health risk to anybody.
