KISHTWAR: Senior Congress leader and MLA Inderwal, G.M Saroori on Monday expressed profound sorrow, grief and solidarity over the sad demises of Hajra Begum mother of Asif Ahmed Sirwal and his two daughters from Kishtwar who died yesterday in a flood affected area at Srinagar.
In a message, Saroori conveyed his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed to Almighty Allah to grant them strength to withstand the immense loss. He prayed to the Almighty Allah for blessing peace to the departed souls besides a place for them in heaven. He remembered the Hajra Begum as a noble woman who lived a pious life. It is pertinent to mention here that government had sanctioned Rs 2 lakhs for the kin of the each of the deceased.
Saroori who is in continuous contact with District Administrations of twin districts of Kishtwar and Doda and also with party leaders who are in the area today briefed him (Saroori) about the situation. He was told that many bridges in Sub-Division Chatroo are damaged, more than 50 houses have been destroyed, many roads are blocked due to landslides including Kishtwar-Sinthan National highway, Thathri-Bunjwah Road in kilometer 8, hundreds of acres of standing crops in Keshwan, Sarawan, Thakrie, Chatroo, Chingam, Mugalmaidan, Drabshalla, Saroor, Bunjwah, Khara, Bhalessa, Thathri and other parts have been completely damaged due to the devastating rainfall and floods.
Saroori telephonically contacted DDC Kishtwar Mohd Javed Khan and DDC Doda Shyam Vinod Meena and informed them that massive damages have been caused to the houses, crops, livestocks and the public property in the area. He said Union Government had already announced Rs 1,100 crore funds under SDRF and additional of Rs 1,000 crore to the State for flood relief and rehabilitation. He urged administration for immediate survey and for issuing necessary instructions to all concerned departments for assessing the damages caused due to incessant rains and floods so that necessary relief, respite or compensation be provided to the sufferers and infrastructure be restored.
