UDHAMPUR: Several Congress workers under the leadership of Senior Congress leader Sumeet Magotra on Saturday condemned the attack on Amarnath Pilgrims in Valley by anti-social elements and staged a protest at Jakhani Chowk.
Several Congress workers under the leadership of Senior Congress leader Sumeet Magotra gathered at Jakhani Chowk as they came to know Amarnath Yatris were severely beaten by the anti-social elements in Kashmir Valley. Some of the Amarnath Yatris managed to escape from Valley and reached at Jakhani Chowk. A large number of people along with Congress workers and Amaranth Yatirs raised slogans against BJP-PDP Government. While addressing a large gathering Sumeet Magotra flayed State Government as well as J and K Police for not providing adequate security to Amaranth pilgrims. He further said that before the start of Amarnath Yatra, State Government was said for proper and tight security during Holy Yatra. Magotra claimed that present government has totally failed to provide security to the people . Pilgrims disclosed that they were stopped and manhandled by the mob. Sumeet Magotra also criticised the district administration for not providing facilities to the Amaranth Yatris who were forcibly stopped in Udhampur not to continue the Yatra due to the situation in Kashmir Valley.
