New Delhi: After a successful stint of two years, union finance and defence minister Arun Jaitley will continue to be on the advisory board of the Hockey India League for the next two editions.
“India’s noted politician and the prominent lawyer joined the Advisory Board in the first edition of the Hockey India League in 2013 and since then, he has been an integral member of the Board and proactively been involved in the development of the League,” HIL said in a statement.
Speaking on his involvement in the Hero HIL, Jaitley said, “It’s great to see Indian Hockey gaining its lost glory and achieving new feats worldwide. When Hockey India launched Hero Hockey India League, we all knew that the young players will benefit the most from the League.
“Now we are all seeing the improvement of players’ skills and in the process Indian Hockey team gaining success both at Senior as well as Junior levels at the various international platforms.”
“With all the concerted efforts that we are seeing in hockey over the last couple of years, the progress is now evident after the recent success of the women and men’s hockey teams including the women securing the bronze medal in the 2014 Asian Games and the men team achieving a Silver medal in the 2014 CWG and the Gold medal in the 2014 Asian Games.”
Speaking on the new development, the Hockey India League, Chairman Narinder Batra said, “It’s very encouraging for HHIL to get support from influential people and sports enthusiast like Mr. Arun Jaitley. In the first two editions he always made his presence felt by being a part of important decision making meetings and his suggestions have always helped us to make the League stronger.”
