Army triumphs Ladakh Scouts Marathon

Leh: To foster national spirit and encourage sports in Ladakh, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) on Monday organised the third Ladakh Marathon at Leh. A total of approximate 3,000 participants from across the world took part in the Marathon which had four categories namely the Khardung La Challenge Ultra Marathon of 72 Kms, the Full Marathon of 42 Kms, the Half Marathon of 21 Kms and the 7 Kms run in which maximum school children participated.
The Ladakh Marathon is the World’s Highest and Toughest Marathon held at 3,524 meter (11,562 feet) altitude.
The team of Army Ladakh Scouts participated in the event with great zeal and enthusiasm and performed exceptionally well. Riflemen Shabbir Hussain, Rigzin Nurboo and Tsering Gyatso stood first, second and third in the Khardung La Challenge Ultra Marathon of 72 Kms respectively. Recruits Shokat Ali and Fayaz Ali secured first and third positions respectively in the Full Marathon of 42 Kms. Member of Parliament Ladakh, Thubstan Tsewang, Chief Executive Councillor Leh, Rigzin Spalbar and District Commissioner Leh, Simrandeep Singh graced the event with their presence.
The Indian Army provided full administrative support to the organisers towards smooth conduct of the marathon.
