SRINAGAR: The top brass of the Army on Friday concluded its security review and operational preparedness meetings spanning over two days in the Kashmir Valley.
Army chief General Bipin Rawat and several top officers of the force arrived here on Thursday for meetings, an Army official said.
He said at the meetings, the Army top brass was briefed about the security situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and counter-insurgency operations in the hinterland.
They were also briefed about the counter-insurgency grid and preparedness of the armed forces to deal with any “misadventure” from across the LoC.
The Army top brass was also briefed about the recent operations of the force, including repelling an attack of the Pakistani army’s Border Action Team (BAT), foiling of a major infiltration bid in Uri sector on May 27 and killing of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Sabzar Bhat on the same day, the official said.
STATE TIMES correspondent adds that the commanders had threadbare discussions on operational readiness of the Indian army in the wake of fresh hostilities along the Line of Control.
Interestingly, when the senior army commanders were meeting in Srinagar on Thursday, Indian Army had launched punitive strikes to give befitting reply to the unprovoked ceasefire violations in Nowshera and Krishna Ghati sectors of Poonch.
After a truck driver engaged by the GREF was hit by splinter injuries of a mortar shell Indian army had launched full throttle offensive in which Pak army is learnt to have suffered heavy causalities.
Meanwhile, during the meeting the senior army commanders were told to maintain tight vigil in their areas of jurisdiction to prevent fresh infiltration bids.
According to fresh assessment of the various security agencies in the coming days infiltration bids would increase across Poonch and Rajouri sectors and Northern Kashmir district of Kupwara.
The army is anticipating more such attempts as almost all the snow laden mountain passes would be cleared and the same may be used by the infiltrators to sneak inside the Indian Territory.
The Army Chief had also warned senior commanders to remain vigilant with regard to Pak strategy of deploying Border Action Teams close to the line of control to ambush patrolling parties.
Senior army commander Lt Gen JS Sandhu had earlier told TV news channels during series of interviews that activity of Pakistani special forces, Special Services Group along the Line of Control has been noticed on regular basis and it has also been noticed that BAT teams have been receiving training alongside these SSG men.
“The inputs provided by the intelligence agencies suggest that Pakistan is also mulling major BAT attack to provoke and test the patience level of the Indian army.
After receiving the political backing of the ruling dispensation the Indian Army is already gearing up to dominate the line of control to ensure smooth conduct of the Amarnath Yatra .
