JAMMU: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drug trafficking from its gross root level under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) Jammu arrested one inter-state drug peddler and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from his possession.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) ANTF, Vinay Kumar said, “ANTF Jammu, a specialized unit to check rising menace of drugs, achieved another success on Thursday after it foiled a bid to smuggle commercial quantity of Poppy Straw and Charas worth lakhs of rupees.”
He said that ANTF team received a specific information that one Truck bearing registration No. PB06V-8987 driven by Satpal Singh, son of Khera Singh, resident of Bulla Gurdaspur, Punjab with criminal intention has concealed huge quantity of Poppy Straw and Charas in the Truck which came from Kashmir Valley and going out of J&K UT is parked near Try Ground Behind Wave Mall Narwal, Jammu.
On this information, he said, a case FIR No.15/2022 under Section 8/15/20 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station ANTF Jammu and team immediately swung into action and spotted the truck.
During search, SSP ANTF said, 411 Kg of Poppy Straw and 1.550 Kg of Charas was recovered from the aforesaid truck by team. The accused person has been arrested and truck used in the commission of crime has been seized, he said adding that ANTF is investigating forward and backward links of this racket.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested drug peddler was going to sell the same contraband among the youth and other drug peddlers at Punjab, SSP Vinay said.
He requested community members to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood.
Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, he said adding that our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure.
