Annual Sports Meet begins at Dogra College of Education

JAMMU: Former Minister and Chairman Dogra Educational Trust, Th. Gulchain Singh Charak on Wednesday inaugurated 21st Annual Sports Meet of Dogra College of Education in the college premises, here.

Speaking on the occasion, Charak stressed that apart from imparting academic knowledge to the students, various physical activities must also be encouraged for their overall development.

He also emphasised that such sports events will go a long way in developing overall personality of the students.

Congratulating the management, staff and students for organizing such activities, he hoped that these activities will continue in the near future also in the interest of the students.

Earlier, the programme started with the lighting of traditional lamp followed by the welcome address by Sumer Singh, Convener Sports Committee. He emphasised that sports could play a major role in promoting and propagating peace with an understanding of the spirit of global participation and philosophy of sports.

During the inaugural ceremony, few exhibition matches were played which included kho-kho, three leg, sack, Matka, one leg, crocodile and 100 mt race and tug of war.

The week long Sports Meet will have sports competitions like volleyball, basketball, badminton, athletics, kho-kho, table tennis, carom and chess etc.

Prominent among those who attended the function were Kr. Samar Dev Singh Charak, Secretary, Dogra Educational Trust; Prof. B.D Damral Director-cum-Principal Dogra College of Education; Shefali Sharma, Vice Principal; Bela Thakur, Academic Co-coordinator of the College.

The programme was organized under the guidance of Sumer Singh Sambyal, Convener Sports Committee and S. Harsimran Singh, Physical Instructor, Dogra Educational Trust.

Vote of Thanks was presented by Harsimran Singh.
