JAMMU: Anganwadi workers and helpers today staged statewide protest against the termination order issued by State Mission Director, Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).
The protesters under the banner of the J&K National Trade Union Front assembled at the Press Club here and raised slogans against the ICDS authorities for issuing the alleged termination orders.
The workers later took out a procession from the Press Club to the office of the District Development Commissioner, Jammu, and submitted a memorandum to him.
The protestors passed through various areas of the city and demanded withdrawal of the order.
State President of the J and K National Trade Union Front Mohammad Gafoor Dar while addressing the workers condemned the callous attitude of the government, particularly the ICDS authorities.
Dar claimed that the ICDS authorities were harassing and victimising poor Anganwadi workers and helpers by issuing termination order with “mala fide intention” to enroll their own people.
He appealed to the workers and helpers working in the ICDS to come out on streets and organise protest demonstrations at all the district headquarters.
The protesters also demanded enhancement of honorarium for Anganwadi workers and helpers, enhancement of promotion quota and removal of pay anomalies.
Similar protests were held at Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua, Udhampur, Samba and other districts of Kashmir Valley.
