JAMMU: Anganwadi workers and helpers of ICDS Projects of Social Welfare Department (SWD) on Tuesday held a protest at Exhibition Ground near Press Club here.
A large number of ICDS workers from various projects of Jammu region, under the banner of Anganwagi Workers Welfare Association assembled near Press Club and were shouting slogans against the higher authorities in the department demanding release of their wages.
They demanded release of pending salary for the last five months and increase in salary.
Association President, Swarna Choudhary, while addressing agitating workers, criticised the higher authorities in the department for ignoring the long pending issues of the Anganwadi workers and helpers. She said the workers are unpaid for the last five months and the department is also silent on their promotion issue.
She also asked government to provide salary books, release five months salary, provide nutrition with all items quarterly, pay labour and carriage charges, promote Anganwadi workers on the post of supervisors with proper seniority, and to constitute Grievances Committees at State and district level. She urged the State Government to accept the genuine demands of workers.
Others present in the protest were Neelam Sharma General Secretary, Subash Verma President and Ashok Choudhary General Secretary Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh Sushma Devi, Kamlesh Devi, Perseno Devi, Koushalya Devi, Nirmal Devi, Soma Devi, Chintpurni, Anju Devi, Raksha Kumari, Veena Devi, Vishno Devi and Devi.
