JAMMU: After nearly more than a week, Jammu Police on Saturday cracked the murder mystery of AMT School faculty member who was found dead at her residence on 24th May in Resham Ghar locality of Bakshi Nagar area.
“We have solved the blind murder case of a lady, who was brutally killed by her relative on the fateful day of 24th May ,” Dr Sunil Gupta, SSP Jammu told reporters.
The SSP said that the initial investigations into the case revealed that it was a brutal murder following which a Special Investigation Team was constituted which was headed by Pranav Mahajan, SPDO City West and under the close supervision of Dr Vinod Kumar, SP City North.
“Various suspects were rounded up and questioned during the course of investigation while various technical and scientific evidences were also collected and analysed minutely,” said the District Police Chief.
During the sustained questioning one of the suspects identified as Piyush Sawhney, son of Ravi Sawhney, resident of House No125, Malhotra Street, Purani Mandi, Jammu disclosed his involvement in the murder of his aunty namely Anita Gandotra, wife of Vinod Gandotra, resident of Reshamgarh Colony, Jammu, he added.
The SSP said that it came to surface that the accused had taken some amount as loan from his aunty and was unable to pay back.
According to police sources, the accused had taken a loan of Rs 30 lakh from the bank and the deceased was a guarantee holder to it.
She was pressing the accused to repay the loan.
“The deceased was pressing hard to get that amount,” he said and added that the accused used to visit her house and on the day of incident, he (accused) visited the victim’s house, but on payment issue, he became furious and subsequently attacked her which resulted into the murder of the lady,” said the SSP.
“Matter is still under investigation and questioning is being carried out, some more facts and recoveries are yet to be effected,” he asserted.
Anita Gandotra was found murdered by some unknown person(s) at her residence on 24th May and her relatives shifted her to the GMC Jammu, where doctors declared her brought dead.
A case under FIR No 67/2017 under Section 302 of RPC was registered.
