STATE TIMES NEWS
SRINAGAR: Amid unrest in Kashmir Valley, BJP MLC Surinder Ambardar on Tuesday visited Haal Transit Camp in Pulwama District of Kashmir which was attacked by protesting mobs after the killing of Hizbul Mujahedeen terrorist Burhan Wani. MLC, while issuing a statement after meeting the residents of the camp, mentioned that after the news of the terrorist Burhan Wani’s death, the protesting mobs from the nearby villages gathered around the transit camp where close to three hundred Kashmiri Pandit employees reside who have gone back to Kashmir Valley for employment and resorted to heavy stone pelting resulting in creating panic and fear psychosis in the inmates which included children and several pregnant women and moreover there was complete failure of the State and local administration as no official from the administration came to meet them or took any concrete step for close to 48 hours adding to the agony of the displaced KP employees.
After spreading the news of attack on transit camps situated in south Kashmir, he immediately rushed to Srinagar to visit the transit camps particularly the Haal Transit Camp which witnessed the maximum brunt of the protesting crowds however to his grave surprise he was initially not allowed to visit any camp where KP displaced Pandit employees are residing and it was only after the intervention of MoS PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh and General Secretary BJP (Org), Ashok Koul, he (MLC) was allowed to visit Transit Camp Pulwama in order to meet the residing employees whose vehicles and pre-fabricated structure in which they live have been damaged due to heavy stone pelting.
BJP legislator also mentioned that some of the families even abandoned the camp to move to safer place in Srinagar and took refuge in a temple which also includes some pregnant females who needed immediate medical attention .It was also stated by the legislator that for two days there was no deployment of additional force at the transit camp and the inmates were left to be protected by handful of police constables who he was told have done a commendable job in protecting the employees and it was only after he (MLC) took up the matter with concerned authorities and after the intervention by Home Ministry and Dr Jitendra Singh that RR Battalion was deployed at the particular camp. There are still no basic amenities being restored at the camp as there is no ration, no water supply, no power supply available and the DC Pulwama despite being informed about the same has done nothing which he said he would be taking up with the authorities. BJP legislator also stated that some similar reports have come from Mattan and Vessu Transit camps as well wherein the Kashmiri Pandit employees are residing and he will try to visit there as well to meet the employees and try to restore some confidence in them.
