The incident occurred on Sunday on AirAsia India’s Bangalore-bound flight from Guwahati.
“The two passengers, classified as unruly and disruptive by the captain and cabin crew, boarded the flight under the influence of alcohol and created nuisance and disturbance on the flight,” the airline said in a statement today.
“Any anti-social behaviour by passengers can have unpleasant consequences for the safety, security and comfort of all onboard,” it added.
According to the airline, it lodged a complaint with Bangalore police after its aircraft landed in the city.
There have been many incidents of unruly behaviour by fliers onboard various airlines recently.
Last year, Indigo deplaned 70 passengers from its Hyderabad-Raipur flight after an alleged spat with the cabin crew.
In another incident, as per safety protocol, the airline tied a passenger to his seat for violent behaviour and for threatening crew members.
According to the global aviation body, International Air Transport Association (IATA), “unruly passengers” are one of the top three safety issues that concern cabin crew.
As per IATA, in 2015 there were 10,854 reported cases of unruly incidents across airlines worldwide, which translates into one incident for every 1,205 flights.
