JAMMU: The Inter Battalion Sports Tournament-2016 which was started on 9th November concluded at an impressive function held at Police Sports Stadium, Gulshan Ground here on Monday evening. More than 500 sports personnel and athletics including women players, representing 31 Battalions of IRP and Armed Police, participated in the 13-day long Tournament.
Addressing the function, Additional Director General of Police Armed (ADGP), L. Mohanti said that JKP has been playing a prime role in the promotion of sports culture in the State. The force, besides its professional duties, has been focusing on the promotion of
sports which is proving instrumental in channelizing the energy of the youth and cultivate talent among the sports lovers, he said.
Stressing upon the youth to avail opportunities provided by the organization, he said that the sports activities are pivotal, not only for maintaining physical health but also enhances mental capabilities of the sports person.
Such activities have also helped to strengthen police-public relation which is a healthy sign for the development of the society, he added.
Mohanti said that sports arena within the Organization has also remained under focus and in this regard various sports tournaments at different levels are conducted regularly with the aim to boost the talent of sports personnel within the department. The efforts have proved fruitful and our players have touched heights of success at national and international level bringing laurels for the Nation and the Force, He said that the activities create sportsmanship among the personnel to enhance their discipline and talent.
The occasions also create a team spirit among the participants to face any hostile situation in day-to-day activities and help the organizers to identify the talented sports person to form the contingent which could represent the Organization in national level events.
ADGP appreciated the efforts of Organizing Committee, headed by Yoginder Koul and Nodal Officer, Mohan Lal and their entire team for conducting the Tournament in a well organized manner. He said that entire team made excellent arrangements for 13-day long Tournament at different venues in Jammu city and provided every assistance to the players and visiting teams during the entire tourney.
Earlier, the IGP, IRP, Jammu Zone, who was the Chairman of the Tournament, Yoginder Koul threw light and briefed about the events played during Tournament at different venues. He said the sports persons and athletes expiated their talent in various disciplines. All the events of the Tournament were played on knock out basis as per the rules and guide lines laid down by All India Police Sports Control Board.
On the conclusion of the function, Mohanti distributed trophies and prizes among the winning teams and athletes. He congratulated the winners and asked them to refine their talent for other competitions.
Among others, the concluding function was attended by DIG, Armed, Alok Kumar, AIsGP, Dr. Hassib Mughal, Sheikh Junaid and Javaid Ahmed Koul, SO to ADGP, Mohammad Yasin Kichloo, Sports Officer APHQ, Jigmet Lhundhup, (Asstt: Nodal Officer), Sandeep K. Mewhta, all COs of Armned/IRP Bns, Dy.SsP, Junaid Wali, Aman Thakur and Jeetan Ji Mattoo, Sports Incharge, Daljeet Singh and other police officers.
