‘Ailing’ HMT staff

Dear Editor,
Can anybody imagine the plight of nearly 1,400 workers and employees who have gone without salaries for about two years? They are knocking at the doors of each and every one, but to no effect. How are they managing their household affairs, education and marriages of their children, illness and even funerals? Only the salaried class can feel where the shoe pinches. They are paying through their nose for the sins committed by those remaining at the helm of affairs for decades. Instead of posting some ‘technocrat’ as head, some person from the military was planted in HMT for a year or so who did not know even the ABC of manufacturing, cost, marketing, sale or even administration. An officer is said to have committed suicide. Such is the environment there. The media has failed to present the “cause and case” of these workers. HMT has remained one of the developmental parameters of our olden decades. It should be preserved as a ‘heritage’, being reminiscence for our posterity instead of bulldozing it.
