AIIMS Jammu’s Advanced Temporal Bone Dissection Course: A step towards surgical mastery

JAMMU: In a pioneering move, the ENT Department at AIIMS Jammu has unveiled a specialized Temporal Bone Dissection Course (22nd – 23rd June 2024), aiming to enhance the surgical skills of Otolaryngologists and Skull Base Surgeons. This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant stride in medical education and surgical training within the region.
Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Vijaypur, Jammu, Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Kant, Medical Superintendent, and Prof. (Dr.) Meeta Gupta, Dean Academics, commended the ENT department for organizing this temporal bone dissection workshop, highlighting the course’s vital role and the department’s dedication to excellence in medical training.
The temporal bone is the protective bone housing the essential hearing sensory organs such as the inner ear and associated neural pathways. It poses unique challenges in surgical procedures due to its intricate anatomy. Understanding the critical need for mastering these skills, AIIMS Jammu has introduced this comprehensive course, tailored to equip medical professionals with the precision and expertise required to navigate this delicate area effectively.
Dr. Darwin Kaushal, Organizing Chairperson, and Dr. Amardeep Singh, Organizing Secretary of the two-day surgical course at AIIMS Jammu, expressed their thanks to the ED & CEO, Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta.
“Temporal bone dissection is fundamental for various surgical procedures, including cochlear implants and skull base surgeries. Through this course, we aim to empower our medical fraternity with the specialized knowledge and practical skills necessary to perform these intricate procedures safely and effectively,” they stated.
Fifty-six delegates from all over India and abroad participated in this surgical training workshop, underscoring its broad impact and appeal. The course curriculum offers a comprehensive blend of theoretical lectures, hands-on dissection sessions, and problem-solving activities utilizing state-of-the-art technology.
Participants had the opportunity to work closely with experienced faculty from various AIIMS, including Dr. Amit Goyal (Professor and Head, ENT Department, AIIMS Jodhpur), Dr. Prem Sagar, and Dr. Rajeev Kumar (Additional Professors, ENT Department, AIIMS New Delhi).
They engaged in interactive learning experiences, honing their surgical techniques and decision-making abilities.
The introduction of the Temporal Bone Dissection Course at AIIMS Jammu underscores its pivotal role in advancing excellence in medical education and patient care, enhancing surgical proficiency, and fostering innovation in healthcare delivery.
