JAMMU: As AIIMS Jammu completes one year of clinical operations, Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO, commemorated the milestone and share the institution’s progress and vision.
In a press conference, Dr. Gupta expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership in establishing AIIMS across India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).
“AIIMS Jammu is the first of its kind in the Union Territory, not just a hospital, but a symbol of hope, care, and medical excellence,” he said.
The institute has achieved significant milestones in record time, completing 43 buildings in just 3.5 years, despite the pandemic. The project was monitored by IIT Jammu, and was awarded the Best Project Award by the Union Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, during the CPWD Annual Day.
On clinical achievements, Dr. Gupta shared, “We began our journey on 1st August 2024 with basic OPD and diagnostics. In one year, we have treated 2.6 lakh OPD patients, admitted 4,000 inpatients, performed 1,800 surgeries, and managed 15,000 emergency cases. Our diagnostic services include over 30,000 X-rays, 20,000 ultrasounds, 7,000 CT scans, and 2,300 MRIs.”
AIIMS Jammu now boasts a state-of-the-art Transfusion Medicine Unit, a Green Smart Waterless Lab, and the Centre for Advanced Genomics & Precision Medicine-the only one of its kind across all AIIMS.
Innovative patient services introduced include the AIIMS Indoor Navigation App, Parikrama Seva e-carts, the Swasthya mobile app, and structured patient support systems like Rogi Sahayak Mitra.
In academics, the institute has grown from 50 to 100 MBBS seats, launched B.Sc. Nursing, MD/MS, MDS, and M.Ch. programs, and is home to over 130 research projects, with collaborations with institutions like IIT Jammu, IIM Jammu, and University of Alabama.
Dr. Gupta emphasized the goal of developing AIIMS Jammu as a “Global Village”, with upcoming Centres of Excellence in oncology, ophthalmology, robotic surgery, and more.
“We dedicate our success to the people of Jammu, our faculty, and the government. AIIMS Jammu belongs to every citizen,” Dr. Gupta concluded, offering thanks to the media for their continued support and trust.
